The Fist of Oblivion, Now Obliterating Private Parts Online

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Beware: The Fist of Oblivion teaser trailer, “It will blow your balls off!”

Friend and fellow fiend for felt Arya Senboutaraj (of directing collective Rainbows and Vampires) recently directed this face-breaking, ass-kicking, puppet punching, kung-fu web series The Fist of Oblivion for Scion. Here’s the breakdown from the proud puppet master himself:

“It’s an episodic kung-fu serial featuring puppets created by Roman Coppola for the Scion brand. Episodes 1-3 are now up, there are a total of 9 episodes all together with a new episode being rolled out every week through the end of December 2008. So stay tuned!!! or web’d or interweb’d.”

And the storyline from Tubefilter:

“Fist Of Oblivion tells the story of Ricky Brisco, an ex-cop and Kung-Fu master who’s on the hunt for his former friend and partner who framed him for murder and now leads the Red Dragons, the most powerful gang in the city. The series is a puppet-peppered homage to the classic Kung-Fu films of the ’70s–chock-full of fierce fighting, mysterious characters, unstoppable evil, sharp dialogue, exotic locations and of course, groovy music.”

How About 42?

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Smashing Magazine recently came out with a list of “40 Exquisite Independent Film Posters“. And it is an exquisite list indeed. After viewing their list of modern day classics such as The Life Aquatic (above) as well as Requiem For a Dream, Lost in Translation, and The Savages among others, two others instantly came to mind. For your viewing pleasures, here are the posters for Dedication designed by Steve “ESPO” Powers and of course our own Beautiful Losers exquisitely designed by Keith Scharwath.

More Covereage: Election Night 11-04-08

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

(click image to see more of the Obamas on election night)

With the election now over, do you still find yourself needing that over saturated Obama fix? Yeah, me too. Thankfully David Katz, photographer for Obama for America, took an amazing series of candid photos of the President-elect and his family on election night. The photo set on Flickr allows you to relive that magical evening that started with a prayer in a little hotel room in Chicago and ended with me drunk off of Moosehead Light in a seedy motel on Sunset blvd. while partying with this hot young lady. You betcha!

Thanks to Kathy and Jon for the photo phun!

Ed Templeton: Map of the Inner War

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Ed Templeton’s latest show at Roberts & Tilton this weekend will feature over 250 new works including painting, sculpture, photography, and works on paper. Ed will also be on hand to sign copies of his latest book Deformer, an 11 years in the making masterpiece compiling more than 30 years worth of material published by Alleged Press! All that plus Matt Leines in the project room! Quite a jam packed Saturday evening I must say.

Ed Templeton Map of the Inner War

November 15 - December 13, 2008
Opening Reception Saturday, November 15th, 7:00 - 9:30pm
Book Signing Saturday, November 15th, 6:00 - 7:00pm

From Roberts & Tilton:

“Templeton documents his life, and the lives of the people around him, in a rich stream of images - images of himself and his wife, Deanna, in their day-to-day lives, and images of others, at home in Orange County, California or during the many tours he makes as pro-skateboarder and artist. Templeton likes to present his photos, drawings and paintings in a non-hierarchical manner, large quantities all mixed up together at once. In Templeton’s way of seeing we also recognize something of the fascination of the passer-by, the transient, gripped, at some unexpected moment, by the “extraordinary of the ordinary,” the exceptional and surprising existential qualities of daily life. (portion of text from Empty Plastic Echoes by Stijn Huijts.)”

M.Y.O.M. (Make Your Own Muppet)

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

The Muppets have teamed with FAO Schwarz to create the Muppet Whatnot Workshop, an online site where you can build your very own Muppet! With the Muppet Whatnot Puppet Designer you can choose from 3 different “body tones” (orange, green, and blue) and dozens of eyes, noses, hairstyles, and outfits to create a standard puppet. And for those who aspire to be true Muppeteers, you can order the Muppet Whatnot Gift Kit which is a custom Muppet built just like the hand and rod puppets from the shows! As you can see from the pic above, I’ve spent some time creating myself as a Muppet. Probably too much time. Or maybe not enough? Either way, I can’t think of a better gift to give someone. BTW, my birthday is November 13th!

Thanks to Alissa the Gelatobaby for spreading the felt.

Now even the most pithy one-liner will abound with renewed typographic and cultural relevance.”

Yes We Did!

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Last night I was fortunate enough to make my way into President Barack Obama’s official Los Angeles election night celebration at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel. Needless to say, the place was completely packed with the happiest voters I have ever seen. Upon working my way through all sorts of long lines, blocked entrances, and closed doors, I was able to get into the actual event and shot this short video of the moment after President Barack Obama delivered his election night speech. President Barack Obama. Just wanted to say it one more time.

The large crowd of revelers react to the introduction of President-elect Barack Obama.

Shepard Fairey and Z-Trip provided the live entertainment.

Changed people.
