Thank GOOD It’s Thursday

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Ever since GOOD Magazine opened up the doors to their GOOD Space on Melrose for their GOOD.IS/DECEMBER series this month, they’ve been good enough to offer free events open to the public as well as free wi-fi for anyone wanting to stop by. They’ve hosted D.I.Y. workshops, town hall meetings on sustainability, and even film screenings. This Thursday they continue to bring the goods as gelato baby Alissa Walker and Good’s Casey Kaplow host artist Geoff McFetridge and others as they engage in a discussion on how good design can affect our LA community. Make sure to RSVP!

From GOOD:

“Designers love to claim that good design can solve any problem. Join the brightest minds from the vast and varied Los Angeles design world as they sketch out better solutions to some of LA’s most pressing issues.”

Ongoing and Upcoming: Secret Headquarters

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

In my writing haste last week I failed to mention the good shows that the good chaps at Secret Headquarters continue to put together amidst their Silver Lake comic book kingdom. I’m making up for it today by posting info on both their current and incoming shows.

Secret Headquarters will have
Phil Noto’s art work on display from
December 12th, 2008 to January 11th, 2009

Opening reception this Friday the 19th at 8pm.

And from the Secret Headquarters headmasters:

“Fuzz & Pluck is an odd, and unusually original graphic novel, a “funny animal” comic that is surprisingly human. Rich with pathos, wit, farce, existentialism and drama, often cruel, always funny, this superficially ridiculous struggle for survival is an Alice in Wonderland for grown-ups that reaches absurdly delightful heights. As Simpsons creator Matt Groening says, “This epic tale of a hapless li’l bear and his defeathered friend is why I love comics. All hail the peculiar Fuzz & Pluck and their creator, Ted Stearn!”

Ted Stearn is longtime storyboard artist for animation. Fuzz & Pluck is the author’s most personal work, showcasing his vivid imagination and meticulous draughtsmanship.”
