Two Trailer Day Thursdays Start Today

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

As you well know, new movies are released in theaters every Friday of the year-save for a few exceptions (holidays, summer blockbusters, Will Smith pictures). And since I’m such a considerate blogger I thought Thursdays would be a good day to reacquaint/introduce you to 2 films I’m eager to see: one coming out the next day, and one for a Friday in the near future. So without any further adieu…

  • Coraline (in theaters tomorrow, February 6th)

This fantastically creepy fairytale is directed by stop-motion master Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas) and is based on comic book legend Neil Gaiman’s (Sandman, Stardust) novella of the same name. Although I’ve been told that Gaiman’s book is actually much much darker than it’s PG rated movie counterpart, I think Coraline is a definite must see in theaters based on the film’s creators alone.

  • Tokyo! (in theaters March 6th)

Ah Tokyo, the grown man’s Disneyland. How I miss thee. Thankfully Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Leos Carax (Pola X), and Bong Joon-ho (The Host) share my sentiment and have teamed up to direct a filmic ode to Japan’s hyper active city of the future. Tokyo! follows in the slice-of-city-life footsteps of New York Stories, Night on Earth, and Paris Je T’aime, and is a movie I can’t wait to visit over and over again.
