Just how I always expected a re-imagining of The Shining: with an angry little squirrel yelling at a couple of distraught kids crudely colored in a coloring book. The Colouring is brought to you by the colorful minds of Dan Britt andJoseph Pelling and was animated frame by frame with coloring done in pencil by hand.

“Meet Myron Lefkowitz, the man who makes sound effects using his own personal wind instrument. He is a fartist, a farteur, a flatulist, but above all he is a professional. Take a peek behind the scenes as Myron enlists his amazing talent to record the sounds for MySims Racing.”
How’d he do that you ask? The director answers via Motionographer:
“We shot the people spinning on turntables at 33.3rpm at high speed and then matched them to the turntables which were working with Serato. The film was made in collaboration with The Scratch Perverts, Foreign Beggars, Shlomo and Will Clarke with sound design by Will Cohen. Post production by The Mill London.”
Seeing this clip also reminded me of an impressive little viral video for cross faders I saw a while back. And wouldn’t you know it, after a little internet researching it turns out that that vid was actually directed by Chris Cairns as well. Chk-chk-check it:
Maybe more fitting for a Monday, yet still appropriate for a hump day, here’s the latest promo for the upcoming 7th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. September 20th, the cast of Seinfeld, and Larry David being Larry David can’t get here soon enough.
Starting with a Deerhunter concert on Wednesday, Joyride art show on Thursday, films on Friday and Saturday, and a closing street party on Sunday, the Bicycle Film Festival rolls deep through LA this week. Along with the art show featuring Cheryl Dunn, Geoff McFetridge, James Jean, Kenny Scharf, and Martha Cooperamong others, the festival’s highlights also include the magnificent Made in Queens, one of the few bike films I have seen. Check the trailer here:

“The size of your pay packet may be important, but so is it’s purchasing power. Helpfully, a UBS report published this week offers a handy guide to how long it takes a worker on the average net wage to earn the price of a Big Mac in 73 cities. Fast-food junkies are best off in Chicago, Toronto and Tokyo, where it takes a mere 12 minutes at work to afford a Big Mac. By contrast, employees must toil for over two hours to earn enough for a burger fix in Mexico City, Jakarta and Nairobi.”
Well, I guess that solves the mystery of this other chart.

Sonja Rasula takes the local and independent artists and designers of Unique Los Angeles to Hollywood’s Space 15 Twenty with the Mini-Market. On top of good music and free Pabst, there’s a little something for everyone: clothing, art, jewelry, plush dolls, stationery, bath/beauty products, baby stuff, eco stuff, etc.
Music meets design meets America as musician Orba Squara (a.k.a. Mitch Davis) went on a 10 city tour in 10 days via bus to promote his latest album fittingly titled The Trouble with Flying. And tagging along to document the magical mystical tour across the country was Random Collective designer and former Wieden+Kennedy creative director José Ricardo Cabral Cabaco. What came of this trippy trip was a truly unique multimedia tour diary featuring “a 430-ft. lateral scroll that takes visitors on the road through lyrics, musings, photography, illustration and typography.” From New Jersey to New Mexico, Pennsylvania to Portland, you could side scroll for hours on their site while virtually visiting the stops they made on their epic journey at the equally epic Orbasquara.com.
