Hey did you hear there’s a movie coming out based on Maurice Sendak’s book Where the Wild Things Are? Yeah, I had no idea either. Luckily The Cinefamily on Fairfax, along with documentarian Lance Bangs, will be bringing us up to date with a tribute to Maurice Sendak featuring “original animated adaptations (on 16mm!) of Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen, along with new short films made by Lance Bangs and Spike Jonze while the new live action adaptation of Wild Things was in production.”
“Jonze had been friends with Maurice Sendak for more than five years before he began working on his feature film, and these new short films capture a sometimes melancholy but always wickedly funny Sendak as he reflects on his Depression-era childhood in the Brooklyn shtetl, a joyous day at the World’s Fair, the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, his books “In The Night Kitchen” and “Higgledy Piggledy Pop!”, his two beloved Hermans (Melville, and his German shepherd namesake), and a long-buried secret.”

Trailers and info for todays’ screenings of Man on Wire and In a Dream:
“Man on Wire” recalls the story of Philippe Petit, who in 1974 stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center, in a feat that became known as “the artistic crime of the century.” Directed by James Marsh and produced by Simon Chinn, “Man on Wire” won the 2008 Academy Award® for Documentary Feature.”
“In a Dream” chronicles the work of artist Isaiah Zagar, who has covered Philadelphia with mosaic murals for the past four decades, and his tumultuous relationship with his wife as a new chapter in their life unfolds. “In a Dream” was directed by Jeremiah Zagar and produced by Jeremy Yaches.”
The soundtrack to Where the Wild Things Are is now streeming on the internets for your aural enjoyment courtesy of imeem. Featuring Karen O and The Kids, the composer and Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman “enlisted friends and fellow musicians she believed had a musical intuition that would bolster her intent to marry sound to vision. These include Tristan Bechet (Services), Tom Biller (co-producer with Karen O and member of Afternoons), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs), Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes), Oscar Michel (Gris Gris), Imaad Wasif (New Folk Implosion, Alaska), Nick Zinner, (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and an untrained childrens choir.”

The on-going battle to know things gets an upgrade with Did You Know 4.0. Does this mean whatever we learned in Did You Know 3.0 is no longer valid? Either way I’m still fascinated by facts, even when they’re bombarding my brain with cheap motion graphics graphics which remind me just how oblivious I really am.
“This is another official update to the original “Shift Happens” video. This completely new Fall 2009 version includes facts and stats focusing on the changing media landscape, including convergence and technology, and was developed in partnership with The Economist. When the combo platter of graffiti artist Blu and artist/filmmaker David Ellis get together the possibilities are limitless. The appropriately titled COMBO is one of those possibilities. Though not as impressive or groundbreaking as MUTO (Blu’s 2008 must-see masterpiece), COMBO is certainly a visionary collabo that must be seen to be appreciated.

The day following a weekend’s worth of celebrating birthdays and weddings isn’t as easy to deal with as it used to be and has thus left my brain and my body pretty much split into two. Here are the accompanying visuals to help illustrate my Monday and hoping yours isn’t as endless as the gif that keeps on gifing:
