With the holiday shopping season officially in full gear, what better gift to give this Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza/Festivus than the Dick Towel?!?! In yet another funny and flawed attempt to get rich quick, The Dick Towel comes (pun intended) straight out of the twisted comedic minds of Dennis and Mac on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (if you’re not familiar with the show, think Seinfeld if they were foul-mouthed thirty somethings with absolutely no morals living in Philadelphia instead of New York. So basically a cast of George Costanzas) and is now an actual product for sale on the interwebs. Get yours now!
Also available from the gang, Kitten Mittens!
Full episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia online at Hulu.com.
The day after Thanksgiving, a.k.a. Black Friday, is upon us which of course means the holiday shopping season has officially begun (in the United States). Let the commerce commence!
In a novel approach to bring the art to the people, artist/designer Parra drives around LA with his mobile pop-up truck where he’ll be peddling both his art and clothing from his Rockwell Clothing line including various Stones Throw collabos. Truck stops at UNDFTD in Silver Lake from 12-2pm, HVW8 Gallery on Melrose from 3-5pm, and Archrival in Little Tokyo from 6-8pm. Take a peak at what items you may find via Freshnessmag.com.
Possibly the best place to do your gift shopping on the east side of LA is at the uniquely school themed boutique, Reform School. They may not have the crazy sales that many other chain stores are having today but they certainly have an abundance of those not-so-common gifts that are the hardest to find.

And last but certainly not least is this little show I failed to mention last week and I can’t forgive myself for missing this one. Barry McGee (TWIST) and Phil Frost, two masters of graffiti-to-gallery art opened their group show Mind the Gap at the Prism gallery in West Hollywood last Friday. Curated by RVCA founder and fight aficionado PM Tenore.

With lot’s of people leaving town today, I wanted to wish everyone a happy early Thanksgiving before eating like Pilgrims and Indians tomorrow. But this themed post is especially dedicated to my vegan brother Justin out in New York, who loves both the fleshy blood and gore of Eli Roth movies as well as the fleshless non-meat of Tofurkys. Bon appetit!
Those fortunate to have jobs this Thanksgiving have much to be thankful for, maybe even more than we realize. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released this visualization of unemployment rates by county “from January 2007-approximately one year before the start of the recession-to the most recent unemployment data available today” and needless to say it’s not a pretty picture. Or in this case not a pretty chart-graph-thing.
And after that completely sobering moment, take a sec to lift your spirits with some comedy courtesy of the Onion News Network and their coverage of Ford’s unveiling of the new “car for the modern age”:
The legend of Doc Ellis’ LSD induced no-hitter while pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates comes to hallucinogenic life courtesy of New York’s dopeness dealing No Mas crew. Intensely drawn and animated by James Blagden, the psychedelic short features a moment by moment account from a non-tripping Doc Ellis himself before passing away last December.
“Sadly, the great Dock Ellis died last December at 63. A year before, radio producers Donnell Alexander and Neille Ilel, had recorded an interview with Ellis in which the former Pirate right hander gave a moment by moment account of June 12, 1970, the day he no-hit the San Diego Padres. Alexander and Ilels original four minute piece appeared March 29, 2008 on NPRs Weekend America. When we stumbled across that piece this past June, Blagden and Isenberg were inspired to create a short animated film around the original audio.”
Yes, you read that right, free money! Courtesy of my bearded graphic designer buddy Keith Scharwath in commemoration of the grand opening of his blog Carwash, Keith will be giving away 100 free Gocco prints on dollar bills with a special message printed on each hand numbered bill. In addition to designing the beautiful poster for Beautiful Losers (which is always up on the left side of this site), Keith has worked on a wide variety of design projects ranging from album covers; logos corporate and non; good work for GOOD; and various Nike projects amongst many others. Please help welcome Keith’s new blog, Carwash, to the interwebs by clicking over for some visual stimulation, inspiration and a“free print (or a free dollar)”while supplies last!
What this weekend’s events and openings may lack in quantity they more than make up for in quality.
New Yorkers are in for quite the creepy treat as visionary director Tim Burton invades theMOMA for a retrospective of the director’s uniquely original visions from his many odd films, sculptures, creatures, and equally quirky works on paper.

The Scion Space hosts another interesting group show in their massive Culver City residence with Euphoria Left the Room, “an exhibition addressing the sense of creativity and visionary imagination, which throughout the 20th century was set free through experimentation and what-if scenarios governed by the “if anything was possible” logic commonly displayed in Sci-fi literature and film.”

Another new mesmerizing music video from my N.A.S.A. homeboys (Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon) as they unleash the Kool Keith/Tom Waits collabo “Spacious Thoughts” from their debut banger, The Spirit of Apollo. One of many original art-meets-animation music videos spawned from the N.A.S.A. project, “Spacious Thoughts” is directed, designed and animated by Fluorescent Hill and once again guided by the steady hands of creative director Syd Garon and producer by Susan Applegate.
More on “the making of” and interview with the artists courtesy of Boingboing.net.
My Academy of Art brethren once again making music videos as a team, this time hitting the Vegas strip with Academy Award winning rappers Three 6 Mafia featuring electro maestro Tiësto, crooner Sean Kingston and the chart topping Flo Rida in the party starting clip “Feel It”. Beautifully shot in Sin City by Jessica Young with additional camera work by Kenny Stoff and Sami Ansari, and of course masterfully directed and extremely well edited by a double dipping Rich Newey for Terrero Films. Gotta give it up to a job well done by the old crew!
