OH WORD! Die Antwoord

UPDATE: Some interesting facts behind Die Antwoord’s presumed rise to interweb domination. (courtesy of a one Bad Andy Soria)

When people just go for it and give it their all, no matter the cost, what they look like or how they’re perceived, it’s always refreshingly inspiring. South Africa’s Die Antwoord embodies that feeling to a “T”, completely runs with it and then circles back to punch you in the teeth. Check out Ninja, Yo-landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek in this interview featuring their latest hit Zef Side as they spit their rhymes, make next level beats all while “taking over the Interweb”.

Listen to more of The Answer (Die Antwoord translation) from their full length album $O$ here.

The vids description:

“Die Antwoord gets interviewed in their hood. They also gooi a quick rap for us. Yo-Landi Vi$$er goois her expensive hair. Ninja goois his piel in all directions within the restrictions of his expensive short pink floyd dark side of the spectrum pant. It all gets out of control. Its too much and you rock yourself to sleep, sucking your thumb.”

THURSDAY (Feb. 4): The Gentrification of Brooklyn

Posted on February 3, 2010
Filed under something to look at, somewhere to go.

Gabriel Reese’s (aka Specter) clever faux-advertising pieces can currently be seen around the streets of Brooklyn as they speak on what’s going on in the community as well as promoting MoCADA’s (Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts) group show The Gentrification of Brooklyn: The Pink Elephant Speaks which opens tomorrow night in, of course, Brooklyn.

Click here to see the entire set of Specter’s ads here via the wonderful Wooster Collective.

The Gentrification of Brooklyn: The Pink Elephant Speaks
Opening reception: February 4th, 6-9pm
Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts
80 Hanson Place Brooklyn, New York 11217
Show runs from February 4 through May 16, 2010

More from MoCADA:

“This exhibition, guest curated by Dexter Wimberly, will examine how urban planning, imminent domain, and real estate development are affecting Brooklyn’s communities and how residents throughout the borough are responding. The exhibition will include the works of several Brooklyn-based artists, as well as those who have been forced to relocate as a result of gentrification. In addition to works of art featured at MoCADA, there will be a schedule of public programs taking place throughout Brooklyn.”
