COVERAGE: Scott Campbell’s Noblesse Oblige @ OHWOW
For Scott Campbell’s first West Coast solo show New York’s new Los Angeles based OHWOW Gallery broke in their new digs with a fine first showing with Campbell’s impressive Noblesse Oblige. Continuing with his trademark manipulation of uncut sheets of dollar bills grounded in the tattoo world he’s mastered, Campbell’s work takes his die cut process to another level with intricately designed large scale pieces that take on a different visual context when viewed from certain angles.

Equally impressive were highly detailed illustrations on the insides of ostrich eggs which further Campbell’s tattooist mythology of roses, snakes, and of course, skulls.

There were also copper plates (which I’m sure will take on a different look on collector’s walls when the pieces oxidize years from now) and neon signs which all lend themselves to the tattoo symbolism Scott is so deeply rooted in. A definite must see for lovers of art, tattoos and cut up money.
