• Skateboarders/artists Andy Jenkins, Mike Myers, Chris Pastras, Russ Pope and Michael Sieben become Weekend Pacifists at Shepard and Amanda Fairey’s Subliminal Projects in Echo Park.

• AMMO Books and Alhambra’s Gallery Nucleus invite you to a reading, artist panel, and signing with The Red Shoes illustrator Sun Young Yoo. On display will be original pieces from the book, a reading of the fable, as well as a discussion on childrens book publishing and the creative process behind the retelling of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale.

• If you haven’t had enough Michael Jackson coverage recently head downtown to the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles’ closing night gala which features three special screenings of The Jackson 5 in Africa.

• URB Magazine and Asics illuminate downtown LA with the world’s biggest Lite Brite with musical performances by DJ Daisy O’Dell, 87 Stick-Up Kids and Mid City West.

• Silver Lake. Sunset Junction. ‘Nuf said.

• Sonja Rasula takes the local and independent artists and designers of Unique Los Angeles to Hollywood’s Space 15 Twenty with the Mini-Market. On top of good music and free Pabst, there’s a little something for everyone: clothing, art, jewelry, plush dolls, stationery, bath/beauty products, baby stuff, eco stuff, etc.

Openings all over Los Angeles, a walking tour that turns into a Big Parade, and a dime bag to take home from New York.

• The Clayton Brothers come home to Santa Monica’s Patrick Painter Gallery with Jumbo Fruit, their latest series featuring their trademark surreal twist this time focussing on the standard issue still-life model of fruit.

• A big two for one opening for Culver City’s LeBasse Projects summer season with Distorted Lens, featuring “Superflat” styled pop artists David Flores and Lisa Alisa.

• Make a move to the group show Momentum, featuring Tiffany Bozic, Chigi (also known as Neri), Ina Kyung Lim, Tessar Lo, Veronique Meignaud, and Brooks Salzwedel at Alhambra’s Nucleus Gallery.

• Giant Robot New York goes tiny for their massive group show Dime Bag 3. Among the over 200 New York painters, illustrators, graphic designers, filmmakers, photographers, and product designers, are Cynthia Connolly, Evah Fan, Maya Hayuk, Rich Jacobs, Andy Kehoe, Matt Leines, Jeff Soto, and Tobin Yelland.

Apologies for the lack of posts this week, but considering my computer has been out sick since December and have been posting wherever I can around LA I think I’ve done a decent job with my streak of daily posts ending this week.
