Doc Ellis & the LSD No-No

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

The legend of Doc Ellis’ LSD induced no-hitter while pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates comes to hallucinogenic life courtesy of New York’s dopeness dealing No Mas crew. Intensely drawn and animated by James Blagden, the psychedelic short features a moment by moment account from a non-tripping Doc Ellis himself before passing away last December.

More from No Mas:

Sadly, the great Dock Ellis died last December at 63. A year before, radio producers Donnell Alexander and Neille Ilel, had recorded an interview with Ellis in which the former Pirate right hander gave a moment by moment account of June 12, 1970, the day he no-hit the San Diego Padres. Alexander and Ilels original four minute piece appeared March 29, 2008 on NPRs Weekend America. When we stumbled across that piece this past June, Blagden and Isenberg were inspired to create a short animated film around the original audio.”

Happy April 20th!

Monday, April 20th, 2009

And as you enjoy whatever it is you’ll be enjoying this fine 4/20, just make sure you don’t call the cops on yourself if you “think you’re dying” or if “time is going by really, really, really, really, slow”, cause chances are you’re just really, really, really, really, high. Like this classic ex-cop:

Time is on Our Side

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Legalize the marijuana? The stoners at Time Magazine think it’s time. And when one of the most revered magazines in the world supports the legalization of weed, I pay close attention. But mostly because I’m as high as a kite. On steroids. In outer space. Man, I’m stoned.

(Take a hit with Uncle Sam for the full article)

An excerpt from the page I didn’t use to roll a joint (and yes, Time Magazine’s pages are now completely made of rolling papers):

“But there are big issues here, issues of economy and simple justice, especially on the sentencing side. As Webb pointed out in a cover story in Parade magazine, the U.S. is, by far, the most “criminal” country in the world, with 5% of the world’s population and 25% of its prisoners. We spend $68 billion per year on corrections, and one-third of those being corrected are serving time for nonviolent drug crimes. We spend about $150 billion on policing and courts, and 47.5% of all arrests are marijuana-related. That is an awful lot of money, most of it nonfederal, that could be spent on better schools or infrastructure — or simply returned to the public. (See the top 10 ballot measures.)

At the same time, there is an enormous potential windfall in the taxation of marijuana. It is estimated that pot is the largest cash crop in California, with annual revenues approaching $14 billion. A 10% pot tax would yield $1.4 billion in California alone. And that’s probably a fraction of the revenues that would be available — and of the economic impact, with thousands of new jobs in agriculture, packaging, marketing and advertising. A veritable marijuana economic-stimulus package! (Read: “Is Pot Good For You?”)”

Now I finally understand what the Stones were singing about when they said, “Time is on my side, yes it is”. I always thought they were from the future.
