What happens when the internets meets HBO? Funny or Die Presents is what. Fridays beginning February 19th, watch a rotating who’s who of comedy including Will Ferrel, Fred Willard, John C. Reilly, David Spade, Zach Galifianakis, Zoey Deschanel, Wayne Newton as Wayne Newton and also one dramatic actor who will be funny because he’s not usually in comedy, Don Cheadle.
Check out the trailer below and some official looking dude named Ed Haligan explaining just what the show is about (looks like it could possibly be the show intro). See more of Ed’s intros here.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have met and worked with some well known and talented actors, musicians and artists during my editing career and I can honestly say I’ve never been starstruck or that in awe of them. But when I took a break from cutting the ATCQ doc on Monday for a chance to check out reigning pound for pound king Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao in a closed training session with legendary trainer Freddie Roachat his Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, I was completely and utterly impressed. It’s one thing to meet one of your favorite athletes-a record setting boxer who has demolished opponents over six different weight classes (the only other boxer to do so was Oscar De LA Hoya who was forced into retirement by Manny last year), but it’s completely different when you’re a Filipino and the person you’re meeting is basically the Filipino Elvis.
And not only was I amazed at Manny’s superior speed and punching power, but I was equally impressed with his graciousness; stopping to say hi and sign autographs for the few people who were in the gym, posing for pictures (somehow I missed my opportunity when I shook his hand), and even apologizing to Freddie when he would hit him a little too hard in the ring.
HBO’s ongoing 24/7 series leads up to Manny’s fight against Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Las Vegas for the Welterweight title on Saturday, November 14th. My birthday is actually the day after the fight and the only present I really want is for Pacquiao to break the record by winning his seventh world title in seven different weight divisions, or at least another chance to get a photo with the champ.
From the Home Box Office cable entertainment channel:
“Filmmakers Lance Bangs and Spike Jonze present an intimate look at the life of noted children’s book writer and illustrator, Maurice Sendak, a seminal talent at times conflicted with his success and whose lifelong obsession with death has subtly influenced his work. Now 81 and living in Connecticut, Sendak is best known for his first (and most famous) book, Where the Wild Things Are, which he wrote after being a book illustrator for over 10 years. Though it was originally panned, Wild Things would eventually become one of the most beloved and critically lauded children’s books of all time and, to Sendak’s chagrin, came to define his career. Through his words, old pictures and illustrations, Tell Them Anything You Want offers a deeply personal look at an otherwise private and somewhat isolated man.”
The new HBO series Bored to Death which stars Jason Schwartzman as a struggling writer turned private detective, Zach Galifianakis as his sperm doner sidekick, Ted Danson as his adventure seeking editor and a cast of guest stars that include Patton Oswalt, Parker Posey and Kristen Wiig among others, doesn’t look to be as boring as the title suggests. In fact, anything involving the bearded Between Two Ferns-er actually should be considered laugh to death material. Premiering this Sunday after the season premiere of a jew named Larry and his show about curbed enthusiasm.
Maybe more fitting for a Monday, yet still appropriate for a hump day, here’s the latest promo for the upcoming 7th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. September 20th, the cast of Seinfeld, and Larry David being Larry David can’t get here soon enough.
Although the first new episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm in two years is still weeks away (September 20th to be exact), it’s hard not get excited for Larry David’s faux Seinfeld reunion which will take up half of the season’s ten episodes in a story arc beginning in early October. Obviously this all sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good.
From the comedic creator who has made complaining a form of art:
“The context is for years I’ve been asked about a ‘Seinfeld’ reunion — as has Jerry and the other cast members,” Larry David said at the “Curb” panel at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena.
“I would say, ‘No, there’s no reunion, we would never do that, it’s a lame idea’ … but it might be really funny to do that on ‘Curb’ … and I kept thinking of how we could pull this off, and Jerry was game … so we’re doing a ‘Seinfeld’ reunion show. … We’ll see the read-through, parts of rehearsals, the show being filmed … you won’t see the entire [mock ‘Seinfeld’ episode] … you’ll get an idea of what happened 11 years later [for the characters].”
“It was like getting on a bicycle,” David said of writing “Seinfeld” dialog again. “Coming up with the right ideas about what they’d be doing 11 years later … that took some thought.”
