To round out the humor for your humpday, here’s the promos for this weekend’s SNL as legendary comedian Betty Whitehosts Saturday Night Live in this her eighth decade of making us laugh with her perfectly timed naivete and comedic charm. The 88 year old former Golden Girl hosts for the first time ever with a little help from Jay-Z and her friends on Facebook.
When you’re dancing your ass off in the desert come mid April the smaller side stages can be the most fun. But, I mean c’mon, the main stages are ridiculous this year: Jay-Z, LCD, De La, Sly, The Specials, Grizzly Bear, Hot Chip, Major Lazer, Thom Yorke…need I go on? Just a ridiculous 2010 Coachella lineup.
Prints from Ito’s first solo photo show at the PÄS Gallery (coverage here) have now gone on sale through the gallery’s website. These limited edition prints come in all shapes and sizes, black and white and color, celebrity or non and can be purchased framed or unframed. They also make excellent gifts!
P.S.-My birthday is next week, Friday the 13th. (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)
P.P.S.-EVERYBODY SOMEDAY will be on display at Fullerton’s PÄS Gallery through November 30, 2009.
A couple of weeks ago NYC lower east sider and Ito came to Los Angeles as a man on a mission: catch Thom Yorke performing new material on Friday, Sunday and Monday; and open his own solo photo show on the Saturday night in between. Missions accomplished. On display at Fullerton’s PÄS Gallery was a sampling of photos Ito snapped while traveling the world as Damon Dash’s personal photographer as well as a personal collection of images shot during the summer of 2009. From Jay-Z to Joe Pesci, twins to transvestites, the visuals captured by Ito’s eye are more than worthy of a trip to Fullerton. EVERYBODY SOMEDAY runs through November 8, 2009 at the PÄS Gallery.

Remember when I declared the mashup “officialy” dead with that lame Jay-Z/Radiohead album? Yeah, well maybe I spoke to soon ’cause a fellow champion named Adrian Champion just resurrected music’s Frankenstein monster with his White Stripes vs. just about every hip-hop great from the 90’s re-imagining called Stars and Stripes and is a (free) must download along with it’s instrumental version!
Highlights from the 13 track album include:
“Bombs Over Orchids” (The White Stripes “Blue Orchid”+Outkast “Bombs Over Bagdad”)
“Icky Says” (The White Stripes “Icky Thump” + Pharoahe Monch “Simon Says”)
“Ms. Doorbell” (The White Stripes “My Doorbell”+Mos Def “Ms. Fat Booty”)
“Cash Run” (The White Stripes + Notorious B.I.G. & 2Pac “Oddz+Endz”)
“One More Corner” (Common w/ Kanye “The Corner”-a song I know well as I edited the music video a few years ago)
Sooo…um, yeah…as I was saying, the Mashup is dead, long live the Mashup!
First there was Danger Mouse as he blew everyone’s mind with the Grey Album, a virtuoso mashup of epic proportions using Jay-Z’sThe Black Album and The Beatles‘ The White Album. Soon after, Diplo and Girl Talk surfaced and continued to mash proper as they created high quality remixes heard on dance floors around the world. Now comes some dude who goes by the name of Minty Fresh Beats with his offering of Jaydiohead. You think to yourself, ”Hmm…pretty questionable album title…but so what? I love Jay-ZandRadiohead, what could possibly go wrong?” Unfortunately soon after you listen to the first few tracks y
ou may find out, as I did, that you now actually don’t like some dude named Minty Fresh Beats. Well, at least he tried. And it’s free.
