Drove back late last night from an amazing San Francisco food-fueled (Molinari’s, Pizzeria Delfina) shoe and shirt-hunting (Upper Playground, Shoebiz) art-viewing and buying (Coverage on Le Merde at Super 7 coming soon!) weekend getaway with friends (old, new and bunny-centric) in my former SF neighborhoods only to come back completely drained late last night to my trusty Los Feliz hood. Yet still, the price of a good time in SF is always worth the trip up north.
About the four different covers (above) from Keith:
“For the art in the magazine, we selected many different visual creators to show us their unique perspective on what a neighborhood is. Valeriya Volkova (Brooklyn, NY), Lorin Brown (Los Angeles, CA), Miss Lotion(Copenhagen) and Public School (Austin, TX) all created covers for GOOD’s first multiple-cover issue. You can learn a bit more about the covers here. And they are all available as prints from Society6.“
And a bit of the Scharwath golden touch thrown in for good measure (pun intended).
Women and art I love. Women who create art I love even more. Echo Park’s Subliminal Projects gathers a who’s who of some of today’s female artists whose strong voices can be seen anywhere, from the streets to the galleries and everywhere in-between, for the group show SUBject/subJECT. Among the powerful women in the show include Swoon, Elizabeth McGrath, Kime Buzzelli, Jesse Spears and Nikki McClure.
*Also…“Ten percent of proceeds from all SUBject/subJECT art sales will go to the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center, dedicated to providing permanent, supportive housing and a safe and healthy community for homeless women.”
More from Subliminal Projects:
“SUBject/subJECT examines women’s use of public platforms in mass media, inviting both artists and viewers into a dialogue about role models, self-image and the messages women project in both the mainstream and alternative media. Says Cheriel, “Now that women have ‘equal rights,’ what are we trying to say? What’s our subject? Since female artists remain underrepresented in galleries and museums, we created this show as a platform for emerging women artists to represent!”

In continuing the films spirit of collaboration, creativity, and inspiraton, Beautiful Losers and Nike Sportswear teamed up this summer to give back to the community with the Make Something!! workshop initiative. Many of the artists from the film (Ed Templeton, Mike Mills, Thomas Campbell) their contemporaries (KAWS, Todd James (REAS), Jose Parla, among others), as well as the filmakers (Aaron Rose, Money Mark, Tobin Yelland, and me Lenny Mesina) taught classes to high school kids in Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami on the D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself) aspects of art-making. The web series, which documents workshops in NY and LA, was just released to the public through Nikesportswear.com. As supervising film editor of the series, which was produced and directed by BlackLake Productions, I believe we really made a difference as the kids in the workshops were extremely inventive and clever with the work they created. Here’s a look at one of the webisodes:
