SATURDAY (July 17): Ed Emberley & Friends @ Scion Installation LA

Friday, July 16th, 2010

You may not remember the name Ed Emberley but it’s more than likely that his iconic imagery from his classic childrens’ books (Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book of Animals, Ed Emberley’s Big Green Drawing Book, etc.) have had an impact on you during your young creative lives. Emberley’s work has also influenced some very influential artists because Raul Gonzalez, Seonna Hong, Matt Leines, Christopher Kline and Saelee Oh are all part of the generational group show Ed Emberley & Friends at the Scion Space in Culver City.

Also…new works and limited edition prints from Emberley himself!

From Scion:

“For “Ed Emberley & Friends,” each artist will create a six-foot-by-six-foot wood panel that is a mash-up of their own style and that of Ed Emberley’s instructional drawing books. The tribute paintings will be exhibited alongside examples of each artist’s individual work. After the show, each of the large painted panels will be donated for long-term display in children’s hospitals around the United States. Emberley will have the largest presence in the show, contributing work from his archives including dozens of pages from the 1970s original mockups of his books. He will have recent drawings of his classic characters for sale, as well as a limited-edition print made especially for the show.”

Ed Templeton: Map of the Inner War

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Ed Templeton’s latest show at Roberts & Tilton this weekend will feature over 250 new works including painting, sculpture, photography, and works on paper. Ed will also be on hand to sign copies of his latest book Deformer, an 11 years in the making masterpiece compiling more than 30 years worth of material published by Alleged Press! All that plus Matt Leines in the project room! Quite a jam packed Saturday evening I must say.

Ed Templeton Map of the Inner War

November 15 - December 13, 2008
Opening Reception Saturday, November 15th, 7:00 - 9:30pm
Book Signing Saturday, November 15th, 6:00 - 7:00pm

From Roberts & Tilton:

“Templeton documents his life, and the lives of the people around him, in a rich stream of images - images of himself and his wife, Deanna, in their day-to-day lives, and images of others, at home in Orange County, California or during the many tours he makes as pro-skateboarder and artist. Templeton likes to present his photos, drawings and paintings in a non-hierarchical manner, large quantities all mixed up together at once. In Templeton’s way of seeing we also recognize something of the fascination of the passer-by, the transient, gripped, at some unexpected moment, by the “extraordinary of the ordinary,” the exceptional and surprising existential qualities of daily life. (portion of text from Empty Plastic Echoes by Stijn Huijts.)”
