“Austin TX’s legendary Alamo Drafthouse comes to Los Angeles, as part of their touring Rolling Roadshow extravaganza! This year, the Rolling Roadshow’s L.A. leg takes place at The Proud Bird (near LAX), and features an outdoor screening of Jackie Brown!
A down-on-his-luck bail bondsman (Robert Forester) finds himself wrapped up in a crime plot likely to break his heart and/or end his life. But after falling head-over-heels for gorgeous flight attendant Jackie Brown (Pam Grier), there’s nowhere to go but straight through the wringer. Quentin Tarantino’s late ’90s masterpiece is a mountain of incredible parts: a crime story, a love story, a tribute to the most sincere cinema of the ’70s, and an unbelievable showcase for the talents of some of Hollywood’s very finest.
To properly celebrate Jackie Brown, we’ll be joining the director and stars (schedules permitting) in the shadow of LAX, where Pam Grier’s flight attendant gets busted by the ATF, kick-starting the high stakes game of double-cross and intrigue. Join us in the grassy rear lawn on the grounds of The Proud Bird (overlooking Los Angeles Int’l Airport). Flanked by vintage airplanes and with a view of the landing strip, this new location is the perfect spot for Tarantino’s airline-centric pot-boiler. Seating is not provided, so please bring your blankets or camping chairs to this event. Winners will also be drawn at random from the crowd to join us at The Proud Bird’s Doolittle Room for a VIP after-party.”
“In honor of the tremendous kick-ass talent of the late David Carradine (1936-2009), filmmaker/big-time Carradine fan Quentin Tarantino, the Cinefamily and its brother-in-arms New Beverly Cinema are all joining forces and bringing to you a four-day movie marathon that highlights the best, weirdest and brightest films in David’s epic filmography. From May 20-22, the New Bev will screen the likes of Bound For Glory, Boxcar Bertha, Death Race 2000 and others (check their calendar page here) — and on the 23rd, we’re gonna do it up with 35mm screenings of the Bruce-Lee penned ode to mystical martial arts mayhem, Circle Of Iron, and the truly strange, one-of-a-kind HFS-style Sonny Boy (featuring Carradine as “Pearl”, the woman behind a freaky backwoods crime family)! In addition, we’ll also be screening 16mm and video Carradine rarities throughout the evening, and we’ll fire up our patio grill for some hot dog action as well. Vive le Grasshopper! “

I know I said I wasn’t going to do any sort of year end lists the other day, but there’s just something about lists that I just can’t resist. And when I can cherry pick from all the “best of” lists that suckers esteemed writers have diligently compiled on the interwebs, well it pretty much makes this list the list to look at. I mean, where else can you peruse a list that includes street art, Quentin Tarantino, NSFW music and viral videos, Manny Pacquiao, conservative conspiracies, repurposing tricks, National Geographic photos and iPhone apps all from one webpage?
So without further ado, and in no particular order other than alphabetical, I present to you my humble list of the best “best of” lists for the year 2009.
