SATURDAY (July 10): Wild Thing @ Roberts & Tilton

Friday, July 9th, 2010

A Wild Thing group comes to town as wildly talented artists Noah Davis, Chris Johanson and Kehinde Wiley amongst many more attack Roberts & Tilton in Culver City.

From Roberts & Tilton:

“Roberts & Tilton is pleased to present Wild Thing, an exhibition of works comprised of various approaches to what is considered wild and untamable, yet simultaneously conceptual and laborious. The works included in Wild Thing are not the embodiment or exacting replica of any one “wild thing,” but of any and all things considered “wild.” By presenting a selection of international and local artists, we come to realize that no distance or variation in culture has the ability to jeopardize the absolute integrity or the personal experience of what each viewer might consider “wild.”

SATURDAY (April 10): Adam Pendelton at Roberts & Tilton

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

New York based artist Adam Pendleton returns to Culver City’s Roberts & Tilton gallery with his sleek sculptures and monochromatic code paintings in his latest solo show  EL  T D    K Los Angeles.

From R&T:

“Roberts & Tilton is pleased to announce its second solo exhibition with New York based artist Adam Pendleton. The artist’s work plays with conventional notions of history and language, proceeding from the notion that thought does not always determine language, language can also determine thought.   EL  T D    K Los Angeles is a selection of projects from 2007-present that deal directly with the abstraction and instrumentalization of language and image through sculpture and wall-based work.”

COVERAGE: Ed Templeton’s The Seconds Pass

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

UPDATE: More from Ed’s Toy Machine blog:

“I went minimal for this show, a departure from my usual chaotic display. But there was a theme and concept for this show that I stuck to. All photos were shot from a moving car, and all hung in a straght line.”

Last week Ed opened his latest photo show The Seconds Pass at Culver City’s Roberts & Tilton to the usual large gathering of skaters, photographers and art appreciators alike. And what we all saw was a show that was slightly different for Ed, as in streamlined opposed to his signature clustering style, more “in the moment” snapshots and far less nude/explicit imagery than what viewers have grown accustomed to over the years. All in all, Ed’s The Second Pass is definitely worth a second pass.

Show runs at Roberts & Tilton through April 3, 2010.

Many thanks to my friend Yoshi Shimura of Megane Zine and Star Graphics fame for providing the following photos from the opening. Please click here to see Yoshi’s entire set.

FRIDAY (Feb. 26): Ed Templeton’s The Seconds Pass at Roberts & Tilton

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Painter, photographer, pro skateboarder, loving husband, Toy Machine leader, vegan. Ed Templeton is many a thing. But as Ed describes himself and his artistic brethren in our film Beautiful Losers, “In titling the show Beautiful Losers, that gave it a label and people are now ‘oh, you’re a beautiful loser’. Well you can’t tag me as a one thing or the other, you can’t tag anyone in the show as just a painter, as just a photographer…we’re just artists.”

Ed’s The Seconds Pass passes through Roberts & Tilton in Culver City starting this Friday.

Read and see more from the mind of Ed at his Toy Machine blog here.
