Get your Choe on in the bay as David Choe travels north to Giant Robot’sGRSF store to sign copies of his recently released, 10 year in the making, self-titled book as well as scribble doodles for the peoples.
From Giant Robot:
“Giant Robot is proud to host a reception and book signing with artist David Choe to celebrate the release of his 288-page, self-titled monograph published by Chronicle Books. Raised on comic books, affected by street art, and inspired by crime, women, and music, Choe has developed a unique and restless style that is effortless yet meticulous and focused yet dirty. Since the artist contributed his first illustration to Giant Robot magazine in 1997, he has gone on to become an international fixture in the worlds of street art and indie comics, and has had hugely successful solo shows in high-end galleries in Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, and Los Angeles (not to mention all three Giant Robot locations).
In addition to signing his brand-new book, Choe will be autographing his newly released Munko figures, which are based on his whale paintings, made by Japan’s Good Smile Company, and distributed by Giant Robot.”

The always humorous and extremely talented trio of Albert Reyes, Matt Furie and Aiyana Udesen become one as they join forces and form an artistic Voltron for the show Future Colors of America at San Francisco’s Fecal Face Dot Gallery.
“Fecal Face Dot Gallery is pleased to host Albert Reyes, Matt Furie, and Aiyana Udesen for their second showing as the art gang, Future Colors of America (show details here). Their display of drawing art gang-a-tude occured last year at Giant Robot where the trio covered the walls in numerous collaborative drawings on paper and Albert Reyes iconic book covers. In order to get a taste of what the duo are about we thought we asked Aiyana Udesen and Matt Furie what make them tick.”

The video below shows a master at work installing his California contribution in Oakland and is sweetly bookended with a tandem bike ride with Barry’s and the late great Margaret Kilgallen’s daughter Asha (who was last seen on film in our Beautiful Losers as a toddler).
Go see Barry’s art if you’re in the Bay (installation at the Oakland Museum)…
Keeping it in the Bay, Greg Gossel’s clever multi-layered mixed-media pop-culture messages walk their way onto the walls of San Francisco’s White Wallsgallery in his solo show Sleepwalking.
From White Walls:
“Sleepwalking critiques mass media’s exploitation of specific groups of people: a consumerist practice that projects biased perceptions of gender, race, and culture. This collection points out specific imagery from collective memory of the past 50 years including the confederate flag, 1960s race riots, comic book superheroes, pro wrestling, the Reagan war on drugs, and 8 bit video games. Sleepwalking through this myriad of cultural fragments, Gossel questions how our visual culture has affected society thus far and how it will play out in the future.”
