Our N.A.S.A. homeboys Squeak E. Clean (Sam Speigel) and DJ Zegon (Zé Gonzalez) have teamed up with Indaba music to give the musically inclined a chance to be included on the official remix album of N.A.S.A.’s critically acclaimed debut, The Spirit of Apollo (get it on iTunes now!). On the Indaba website contestants can take their own creative liberties by downloading the albums’ instrumental stems as well as the solo vocals featuring Kanye West, David Byrne, Chuck D, RZA, The Cool Kids, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Tom Waits, KRS-One, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Lykke Li, Santigold, George Clinton, Scarface, and M.I.A. among others. And in addition to being included on the remix album, the grand prize winner will also receive $1000 cash money for their work! Click here or read on below for entry and contest details.

Remix the Gods of music. N.A.S.A., which stands for North America and South America, is an international collaboration between music aficionados Squeak E. Clean, DJ Zegon and their friends, family, and musical heroes. The Spirit of Apollo tastefully combines the sounds of Brazillian funk with soul, reggae, indie rock, old school hip hop and more, and includes superstar collaborations with some of the world’s best musicians.

Join this unbelievable all-star collaboration and land a spot on N.A.S.A.’s upcoming remix album! Download the acapellas and instrumentals from the entire album, including those from superstars like Kanye West and David Byrne. In keeping up with the (Spike) Jonzes following yesterday’s Wild Things post, here today is Spike’s younger brother Squeak E. Clean repping the N.A.S.A. crew with their latest music video-“Whachadoin?” featuring Spank Rock, M.I.A., Santigold, and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner. Following Sam and Syd Garon’s vision of a series of collaborative music videos making up the visual side of their debut album The Spirit of Apollo and inspired by a multitude of talented artists (Shepard Fairey, Marcel Dzama, Sage Vaughn, The Date Farmers with Logan), “Whachadoin?” stays true to form and is wildly animated and directed by Argetinian’s Jorge Jaramillo and Jimena Oddi.

Come one, come all! LA is once again hustlin’ and bustlin’ this weekend with art, film, food, and music galore.

• Arkitip gets down with the ubiquitous Shepard Fairey tonight in Hollywood for the release of issue no. 0051, art installations, and of course Shep and guest djs on the 1’s and 2’s. All courtesy of Alife.

• Celebrate at Chinatown’s Ooga Booga with good ol’ Cali and crew for the unveiling of Teenage Teardrop’s six latest drops: three new 12″s by Nick Dewitt, Lucky Dragons, and Infinite Body, two new t-shirts for the summer, and one new zine! Live performances by the aforementioned artists as well as a dj set by Eddie Ruscha.

• The Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax continue June’s Comedy Death Ray (Upright Citizens Brigade) series with Patton Oswalt presenting Larry Cohen’s 1976 thriller, God Told Me To. Says funny man Patton, “I picked God Told Me To because I’ve never seen it — and I’ve always wanted to see Andy Kaufman go on a shooting rampage.” I smell unintentional comedy brewing.

• Opening this Saturday at the Scion Space on La Cienega is This Must Be The Place, a collection of art and oddities by eight American artists (Gluekit, Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch, Damien Correll, Joel Speasmaker, Matt Curry, Skull Phone, Dan Funderburgh and Jemma Hostetler) who explore the notion of ‘home’ with the loose limitation of a two-toned color palette.

• After unleashing their brand of Asian pop culture to the world in magazine form way back in 1994, Giant Robot has expanded their operation quite significantly with stores in LA, NY, and SF. Celebrate their quinceañera with them as they launch their 15th anniversary group show at the bay area branch.

• Toy Swap! Toy Swap! Toy Swap! Sale! Sale! Sale! On Saturday dork out and trade your toys with other toy dorks at Los Feliz’s venerable Wacko/Soap Plant/La Luz De Jesus.

Equipped with a lazer for an arm and a beret atop his head, Mad Decent’s Major Lazer (a.k.a. Diplo and Switch) takes the battle to vampires, mummys, and knife-wielding bad dudes who drool a lot. The djs’ inaugral music video, which looks like it was ripped from the pages of a Heavy Metal magazine or Ralph Bashki cartoon, features the lovely Santigold and Mr. Lexx. Watch, be amazed, save your money for the action figures, and always remember: “Gunz don’t kill people, Lazers do”.
