In honor of this weekend’s geek gathering at San Diego’s Comic Con, here’s a chance for you to unleash your inner nerd and decide the fate of two action figures in the interactive Iron Man vs. Batman: Interactive Stop Motion Youtube game cleverly created by Kyle Roberts of Reckless Abandonment Pictures.

From Kyle:

“Ever wonder who would win in a fight between Iron Man and Batman? Well you get to choose in this interactive clash of the billionaires!

There took over 1,000 individual pictures and 3 months of work to complete this project. I will be posting a making of video shortly. Coming soon these figures and this animation will be on display at the Toy and Action Figure Museum.”

The Sex Life of Blue Play-Doh is Downright Dirty

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The age old question of what a sex and drug addicted piece of Play-Doh does once they’ve run out of sex and drugs to abuse finally get’s answered* in the brilliant stop motion short BLUE: An Erotic Life from talented Parsons graduate student Tibo Charroppin. Check out stills, video and more on Tibo’s thesis production blog here.

Video is extremely NSFW if your boss or co-workers are made of childrens’ clay, otherwise it’s fine.

From Tibo:

“BLUE: An Erotic Life is a stop motion animation that narrates the life story of a blob of clay dealing with sexual addiction. The piece plays on the contrast between graphic adult content and grotesque stop motion. The combination of the two makes for an absurd, dark humored short film.

BLUE: An Erotic Life is my BFA Student Thesis from Parsons School of Design.”

*Spoiler alert: Apparently once they’ve screwed everyone, including themselves, sex and drug addict Play-Doh’s go on to screw millions upon millions of more people as “the official biggest fucker in the nation”.

An AT-AT is Man’s Best Friend

Monday, June 28th, 2010

In AT-AT Day Afternoon you’ll find yourself yearning for an AT-AT as a pet. Especially one that poops out Jabba the Hutts.

Another mini masterpiece from the mind of French-Canadian stop motion superstar Patrick Boivin.

From monsieur Boivin:

“When I was a kid, there are two things I wanted badly and never got… A real dog and a Kenner AT-AT Walker.

My Desk Isn’t 8-Bit

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

The color red loving San Francisco based artist Alex Varanese turned his desk into an 8-bit stop motion video game in the aptly titled short My Desk is 8-Bit and now I wish mine was too.

From Mr. Varanese:

“I recently found myself wondering what a video game might look like in the form of a stop motion animation. While a normal person’s response to such a question would of course be “who gives a shit?” I possess few of the qualities typically associated with normalcy and was irrevocably compelled to find out. This is the result.

Also, I’d like to think I’m the first person to be inspired by Michel Gondry AND R-Type on the same project.”

Iron Baby!

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Canada’s stop motion master Patrick Boivin (Iron Man vs. Bruce Lee, Jesus vs. the Pope, Boba Fett breakdancing) has went and done amazing again. This time employing the powers of his baby daughter as Iron Baby takes on a gang of machine gun wielding bunnies.

From monsieur Boivin:

An Iron Man movie parody starring my baby girl. The costume was created by her uncle STROB.

The Magic Classroom Stops Motion Everywhere

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Fresh off of yesterday’s ultra informative (and mildly tingly) CPR post, I thought it would be appropriate to share another clever educational commercial. SMART Technologies shows off their touch screen interactive whiteboards in their stop motion-centric spot “The Magic Classroom” and asks you to vote for the “best teacher in the world” on their website. And with all due apologies to your 5th grade teacher, Bugs Bunny and the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba, but the best teachers in the world are obviously those professional lingerie ladies CPR instructors.

Star Wars in Stop Motion

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

As all us nerds know, yesterday was Star Wars Day-the day to celebrate all things from a galaxy far, far away. Like the good geek I am I did my part, which ended with mixed results (apparently Al Roker doesn’t like getting dry humped by an Ewok-my bad).

But leave it to a guy with every too many Legos and too much time on his hands to create a stop motion masterpiece retelling the original Star Wars trilogy in two minutes. From Youtuber dzine123.

Star Lego Wars

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Star Wars, Lego and stop motion? Impressive, most impressive. But even more impressive was that the video, created by YouTuber Fancy Pants Productions, was simply an entry to an animation contest on Bricksinmotion.com. Winner, winner chicken dinner!

From the Mr. or Ms. Fancy Pants:

I made this as part of an animation challenge on bricksinmotion.com. The goal was to make the coolest lightsaber duel possible.

The lightsaber and blaster effects were done in photoshop.”
